Serving Churches Throughout the United Kingdom

Peel Street Baptist Church, Accrington

In 2012, the Corporation were pleased to assist the church at Peel Street, Accrington with making their building more accessible. During 2020, the church applied for a grant for removing the disintegrating cement render on the chapel and replacing it with lime mortar, and modifying the roof tiles as there was currently an insufficient overhang.

The church writes: “The members and congregation of Peel Street Baptist Church were extremely grateful to Grace Baptist Trust Corporation for the grant received to enable repair work to be undertaken to the rendering to the side of the church. Some of this rendering had come loose in a storm and fell to the pavement damaging a parked car and narrowly missing the passenger who in God’s providence was still in the car when the rendering fell … The rendering has been totally removed and replaced and some further remedial work carried out to make safe the chimney – this needed repair to the chimney was only discovered whilst undertaking the rendering repairs and needed to be remedied urgently … Without the financial help with the repair costs the church may have been deemed to be an unsafe building for public access and may have had to close. The help from Grace Baptist Trust Corporation has enabled Peel Street Baptist Church, which is situated in a town centre location, to remain open for outreach and witness to our Lord in our community through its varied ministries including Toddler groups, meetings for older people and Youth Group meetings.”
