The Tabernacle Baptist Church, Wellingborough
The church at Wellingborough needed to secure a dangerous retaining wall, which separated a section of the church grounds and the end of a road called Moffatt Terrace. The wall was leaning away from the road, towards the graveyard, which was much lower than Moffatt Terrace. If the wall were to collapse into the graveyard, it was feasible that the end part of Moffatt Terrace would follow suit. Remedial works were carried out by reducing the height of the wall and shoring it up to stop it leaning further. Despite these measures, however, the wall was still considered too dangerous to leave as it was for any length of time. Complete dismantling and rebuilding would be necessary. Since the costs exceeded the church's available funds, they approached the Corporation for financial assistance.
